NATIONS TRANSLATION GROUP INC.

In 2019, Little Red River Group of Companies acquired 49% of the shares of Nations Translation Group Inc., the largest independent translation business in Canada. The primary client for the business is the federal government, that requires translation of documents in both Canada’s official languages. Operational day-to-day-management of Nations Translation is (led ) provided by its majority owner and Chairperson, Scott Patles-Richardson. Scott is Mi’gmaq from Oinpegitjoig L’Noeigati (Pabineau First Nation) in northern New Brunswick. “Diversification is an important part of being successful in business,” said Scott Patles-Richardson. “Little Red River Group of Companies is already diverse, with several different types of businesses in multiple industries. Acquiring an interest in Nations Translation means diversifying outside their territory, and taking advantage of new and proven markets.”

In addition to translating to and from English and French, being an Indigenous-owned business has led to diversifying the services Nations Translation Group provides. Since the acquisition by Patles-Richardson and LRRGC, Nations Translation has offered more and more Indigenous languages, including Nehiyawewin. “We had always hoped that Nations Translation Group would play an important role in the revival, and survival of Indigenous languages across our territories,” said Mr. Patles-Richardson. “Translation and interpretation services in Indigenous languages, including Cree, Ojibwe, Mi’gmaq and Inuktitut and a few other languages, are an important and emerging part of our business model.” Including Indigenous languages, Nations Translation Group translates in over 95 languages. Not just for the government, but for all private sector industries
